The one you were going to watch tonight anyway. Greenlight doesn't set your syllabus — it fits around what you already watch.

Run a Gap Check
The app compares the episode's vocabulary against your personal dictionary and tells you the percentage of dialogue you already understand.

Do the lesson
First a quick triage — right for “know it”, left for “don't know”. Then you learn the ones you don't: each word comes back in the session until you've got it.

Watch
A green light means you're above your comfort threshold. Play the episode in the original and leave the remote alone.

The mechanic
Three lights instead of guessing
Before you hit play you know where you stand. It's the only number that matters here.
Green light
You're at your comfort threshold or above it. Play the episode in the original — you'll follow it without stopping.
Amber light
You're a little short. One flashcard session — usually a dozen or so words — and you're on green.
Red light
This episode would cost you more time learning than watching. Better to come back to it in a few weeks.
Why we count it this way
Coverage is weighted by how often a word occurs, because comprehension depends on how many times an unknown word actually lands. Proper nouns count as understood — a character's name doesn't block a scene. The difficulty rating is prepared in advance, when the episode is added to the library.
Privacy
Subtitles pass through memory and vanish
This isn't a statement of intent — it's how the app is built.
Raw subtitles never reach the database
The file is processed in memory and discarded. What's left is a SHA-256 digest and a set of counts — not a single line of dialogue.
Flashcards show our sentences
The example beside each word is written for the app. We don't reproduce verbatim lines from anyone's script.
Zero analytics, zero SDKs
The app bundles no third-party package — analytics or advertising. This site collects nothing about you either.
An account is just an email
Your password is stored as a bcrypt digest, session tokens live in the device Keychain, and the database keeps only their digests — never the token itself.
Full disclosure
We need an account because your dictionary and progress sync across sessions and must survive a change of phone. Payments go through the App Store — we never see your card details. We don't profile you, don't sell data, and don't transfer it outside the European Economic Area.

Questions
Before you ask
Is the app in English?
The app interface is currently Polish only. Greenlight is built for Polish speakers learning English, so the language you learn is English while the interface is Polish. This page is bilingual.
Does Greenlight give me series to watch?
No. Greenlight is not a streaming service and doesn't provide episodes or subtitles. It prepares you for a viewing on a service you already use.
How does the app know which words I know?
It starts from your level — A2, B1 or B2 — which you pick yourself or a two-minute adaptive test sets for you. From there your dictionary grows with every flashcard session and review.
What is the “comfort threshold”?
It's the level of comprehension at which watching stops feeling like work. Default 95%. Lower it if you like a challenge, raise it if you want to understand truly everything.
Why does 87% sound high when an episode is still hard?
Because the last few percent are usually exactly the words that carry a scene's meaning. That's why we count coverage by occurrences, not by the list of unique words, and why the default threshold sits so high.
Do you store subtitles?
No.
What do I need to use it?
An iPhone on iOS 17 or newer and an internet connection to analyse an episode.
When does it launch?
The app is in development. We don't collect sign-ups or email addresses — when it reaches the App Store, this page will say so.
